Can you help Alan the T-Rex?

Alan the T-Rex had a fabulous afternoon today. He went with the school's "Reader of the Week"s to Manningham library for their reward for excellent reading last week. He loved it there and was really happy that Sameer asked if he would like to accompany them all on their trip.

Alan loved looking at all the books and wants to start reading some more, unfortunately there were so many books to read he doesn't know where to start.

Can you recommend a book for a fun loving T-Rex to read?

Please leave a comment with your ideas and why you recommend the book.

Mrs Conway shared one idea with Alan, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan which Year6 know all about after their autumn Greek topic and thinks that Alan would enjoy the action packed chapters and interesting characters. He would be especially interested in those far away lands and adventures at every turn of the page. What do you think?

  9. If you are interested in far away lands, you should definitely find the book "A Year Down Yonder" by Richard Peck:

It is a story that takes place in the southern part of the state of Illinois in the United States, which is very close to me. The story happens during the Great Depression of the 1930's. The characters in the story are very similar to people that I grew up with in southwest Missouri!

  13. Alan, I would recommend you read Jonathan Livingston Seagull: not only will you learn what happened to your evolutionary cousins' descendants, you also will not have to turn too many pages with those stubby little arms.

You should read Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz. Its a really good book because its adventurous, about a boy who becomes a spy and you will love the fact that there is a dinosaur in it too (a TRex, maybe one of your family)

  15. Reading Sean's comment there about Anthony Horowitz has reminded me about another of his books, a short story called Granny, where Granny is really evil and nasty, it is a really good read. Please remind me to look this one out to share with the class Alan!

  16. Dear Alan,

Mrs. Conway made a good recommendation. The Lightening Thief is an excellent book. The author of The Lightening Thief lives in my city, San Antonio, Texas. Riordan has a new book series called The Kane Chronicles. The first book of that series is "The Red Pyramid". Many students in my 5th grade class have said it's a good book.

If you want a good realistic fiction book, try "Ida B...and Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster, and (Possibly) Save The World." by Katherine Hannigan. I LOVE to read this book to my class. It makes them laugh out loud and maybe even well up with tears sometimes. (It's one of my personal favorites)

Good Luck on Your Book Hunt,
